Submissions Information

  • We encourage submissions from scholars and individual SJDs. Essay submissions must be between 10,000-15,000 words, and Article submissions must be between 15,000-28,000 words, including footnotes.

    Claims must be supported by citations in Bluebook format. Authors should refer to the 21st edition of the Bluebook for citation form.

    Scholars are encouraged to submit on Scholastica, but we also accept submissions via email to vjilsubmissions@gmail.com. Your email submission should consist of two documents: (1) a word document that contains your piece, including title and table of contents but no identifying information; and (2) a CV.

  • NOTE: the Winter Notes Pool has officially closed.

    Virginia Journal of International Law will be accepting submissions for our Winter Notes Pool until 11:59PM on Friday, February 9th. We encourage submissions from all law students and recent graduates who have written on topics in international law.

    If you are interested in publishing with us, please send your submission to vjilnotes@gmail.com with the subject line "Winter Notes Pool 24" according to the following instructions. Notes submissions must be between 10,000-15,000 words including footnotes. Your email submission should consist of two documents: (1) a word document that contains your piece, including title and table of contents but no identifying information; and (2) a word document with the author's (your) name, law school, graduation year, email, phone number, and the title of the piece.

  • VJIL Online accepts submissions on a rolling basis during two submissions windows: January 1 - March 31 and May 31 - October 31. Submissions must be original, scholarly, and about international law. Claims must be supported by citations in Bluebook format. Authors should refer to the 21st edition of the Bluebook for citation form. Pieces should be between 3,000 and 10,000 words.
